The basement of this fine old church was leased to the City of San Jose as a Community Center catering to the homeless and mentally disturbed population of the city center. In addition to this space, the City also leased an adjacent historic Victorian house for a youth arts program.
MBA was hired to survey the buildings for accessibility and propose a solution. The project involved chair lifts, remodeled restrooms reconfigured entrances and doorways, and (in the historic house) a new foundation. Studies were prepared to aid the congregation in the future to develop enhanced entries with greater security and landscaping. Projects were completed in 2002.
