Sobrato 2 - Transitional Housing
Agnews (Santa Clara), CA

SIZE: 18 d.u.
DATE: 2002
COST: $2,000,000

Located on a one acre, State-donated parcel, adjacent to the Emergency Housing Consortium Sobrato 1 family housing complex, this 18-unit project extends the low-income housing and offers additional unit mix for the homeless of Santa Clara County.

Five staff cottages from the former Agnews State Developmental Center were reused. The rehab included creating upstairs and downstairs two-bedroom apartments in each cottage. These buildings are used as short term permanent housing. Two other buildings were added to the project, each with four apartment units, half with three bedrooms and half with four bedrooms, to act as transitional housing.

Complementary "Mission Style" architecture relates to the historic cottages and the other development in the neighborhood. Completed in 2002 for the Emergency Housing Consortium.
