Jefsen Hotel
Watsonville, CA

SIZE: 39,000 s.f.
DATE: 1993
COST: $3,033,000

The hotel is a complex of three interconnected buildings dating from 1903 originally designed by noted California architect William Weeks. Two of them are two stories, and the other building has a partial third story.

As an unreinforced masonry building, the Jefsen Hotel was heavily damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. Certified historical rehabilitation of this 39,000 sf complex will create SRO housing in the upper two floors and retail/commercial on the ground floor. Work includes correcting code deficiencies, providing seismic upgrades, reworking utility systems, and specifying complete architectural refinishing.

Community facilities include new ground floor residential lobby, lounge, dining room, kitchen, and bathrooms.
